COLME

TELECONFERENCING 

COL has implemented a number of audio teleconferencing systems in the past ten years. COLME re-evaluates and upgrades these systems where necessary.  The conferencing systems can be very effective if proper infrastructure and training has taken place.  The components of an audio teleconferencing system are the bridge, teleconferencing units and microphones where needed. 

BANGLADESH

A workshop was conducted at the Bangladesh Open University in March 1999. Technical staff were instructed on the installation and operation of the Confer II teleconference bridge.   Specifically addressing

• operations of the audio teleconference system

• administrative issues and models for teleconferencing

• teaching issues with teleconferencing

• sustainability of the system 

KENYA

In 1999 COLME upgraded the teleconferencing system at the External Studies Department at the University of Nairobi, Kenya.  This system reaches ten regional centres throughout the country.  The teleconference bridge was upgraded to a new twelve port unit.  An evaluation was completed of the telephone network before purchase and installation of the new bridge.  This system has been in place since May 1999.
