Usha Reddi concluded her term as Director of CEMCA on 31 December 2006 and is no longer a COL staff member.
Dr. Usha Reddi became Director of the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia on 27 July 1998, upon the retirement of Mr. Gopal Saksena. Dr. Reddi came to CEMCA from Osmania University ( Hyderabad ) where she was a Professor and Director of the University's Audio Visual Research Centre (AVRC). With a background in social sciences and a Ph.D. in communications from Pune University ( India ), Dr. Reddi has more than two decades of experience in teaching, research and practice in communications. She was responsible for the establishment and development of the AVRC into a centre of excellence in educational video production. Under her leadership, the Centre maintained a track record of award winning videos for a period of ten years. She has published widely, in Indian and foreign journals, and has specialised in different aspects of communication technology, policy, programme planning and implementation at the national level. In addition, she is a member of the International Communication and Youth Culture Consortium, a loose association of scholars from more than 25 countries engaged in research into the effects of communication on young persons. Widely travelled, she is also a recipient of several international fellowships and speaks several languages, including Spanish, which she learned as a student in Mexico .
