1. Information Resource Centre Manager

Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada

The Position: COL is seeking a competent and dynamic professional to join as an Information Resource Centre (IRC) Manager to develop and maintain a special library of materials in electronic and print formats and provide knowledge management and research services to COL staff.

This 3-year initial appointment is renewable for a further term by mutual agreement.

The Person: Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, with ability to work effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds. An ability to exercise professional judgment, diplomacy and work in a team, while representing COL's interest internally or externally, is paramount to this role.

2. Education Specialist - VUSSC (Virtual University for Small States of the Commonwealth

Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada

The Position: COL is seeking an eminent and senior professional to join as an Education Specialist to provide leadership to expand the capacity of the Virtual University for Small States of the Commonwealth (VUSSC) to meet its developmental objectives through the use of open and distance learning (ODL) and technology-enhanced education and training. The job holder will be required to advise participating small states at all levels on implementing the VUSSC.

This 3-year initial appointment is renewable for a further term by mutual agreement.

The person must: be a Commonwealth citizen, with ability to network across multilateral organisations and to work effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds; have the ability to exercise professional judgment, diplomacy and be able to work in a team, while representing COL's interest internally or externally.

3. Education Specialist - Food Security and Environment

Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada

The Position: COL is seeking an eminent and senior professional to join as an Education Specialist-Food Security and Environment (FS&E) to develop and manage programme initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods in rural and peri-urban communities that depend on the food and environment sectors by using open and distance learning (ODL) methodologies. The job holder will be required to work with Commonwealth governments on policy development, to assist agricultural universities, institutions and extension services to use distance education, to expand access to learning for livelihoods and environmental education and to provide appropriate training and continuing professional development to individuals in these areas. Extensive hands-on experience in the use of open and distance learning (ODL) is required.

This 3-year initial appointment is renewable for a further term by mutual agreement.

The person must: be a Commonwealth citizen, with ability to network across multilateral organisations and to work effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds; have the ability to exercise professional judgment, diplomacy and be able to work in a team, while representing COL's interest internally and externally.

CONSULTING 

COL supplements its staff resources and internal expertise by contracting consultants to undertake some of its programme work in the implementation and delivery of its Three-year Plans. The expertise of consultants may be required at various stages for such services as:

    • Needs analysis and feasibility study services
    • Workshop facilitation, training and instructional design
    • Monitoring and evaluation
    • Other short and medium term professional and technical assistance.

A consultant or team of consultants may be commissioned.

If you are interested in consulting opportunities with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), a Consultant Form must be completed and returned to us. It will provide us with information on your background in open learning/distance education, training of distance educators, instructional design/materials development, educational technology/media, environmental education, gender and development, planning and management, research and evaluation, etc. The form is available for download through the link on the right.
