Mohan Menon left COL at the end of April 2008 to join the UNESCO/UNRWA Programme in Jordan as Chief of the Educational Planning and Management Division. UNESCO/UNRWA provides education to Palestinian refugees.

Professor Mohan B. Menon joined the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) in August 2001. Originally, he was Education Specialist, Teacher Training, and became Education Specialist, School Development, in January 2005. He is responsible for facilitating Commonwealth Governments and institutions in focussing on the use of open and distance education for professional development of teachers and other education personnel.

Professor Menon holds an M.Sc. from the University of Calicut, a B.Ed. from the Regional College of Education, Mysore, and an M.Ed. and Ph.D. in Instructional Designing from the Centre of Advanced Study in Education (CASE), M.S. University of Baroda. He has over 25 years of research, teaching and administrative experience and taught courses on Instructional Designing, Science Education and Research Methodology in CASE for ten years before joining the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in 1987 as Planning Officer and founder of its Planning and Development Division. In 1992, he was named Director of the Indira Gandhi National Open University School of Education. From 1996 - 1999, he was Chairman of India's National Open School, after which he returned to his previous position at IGNOU.

He was also a visiting scholar to the University of Leeds in 1992 and was attached to (COL) as a visiting fellow in 1994. 

Professor Menon has consulted in the areas of primary education, open schooling and open/distance teacher education for international agencies including UNDP, UNICEF and COL. He has a number of publications in the area of distance education and teacher education.
