COL organises and/or co-hosts Commonwealth Day events, and pan-Commonwealth, regional and virtual conferences with local partners to share experience, knowledge and new developments.
Commonwealth Day
Commonwealth Day is an annual event during which all the 53 member countries of the Commonwealth celebrate their links with one another. It is observed on the second Monday of March. People use the day to promote understanding about global issues, international co-operation and the work of the modern Commonwealth. Each year there is a different theme.
Pan-Commonwealth Forum on Open Learning (PCF)
COL's Pan-Commonwealth Forum on Open Learning is held biennially, co-hosted with different partners in different regions of the Commonwealth each time. The five-day programme is designed to address open and distance learning through widening educational access, bridging the digital divide and by advancing the social and economic development of communities and nations at large. The Forum's focus is on topics relating to, and participation by, societies in developing countries. COL's Excellence in Distance Education Awards are also presented at the Forum.
Virtual conferences
COL has facilitated "virtual conferences" for both public discussion and project administration, and is also helping to improve networking through this technology, expanding groups such as school administrators people involved in technical/vocational education and training programming, and operations within a particular region of the Commonwealth.
Other
COL convenes and/or supports a variety of other regional consultations and policy dialogues, some of which are organised on an invitation-only basis.
