Call for Abstracts Case Studies Workshops Posters and examples of work

PLEASE NOTE:  The deadline for the submission of abstracts (for case studies, workshops or posters), 25 September 1998, has now past.  Abstracts are no longer being accepted.

The Pan-Commonwealth Forum organisers invite abstracts for papers, workshops and posters from:

• Government, government and non-government agency representatives
• Open learning, educational media, library, information technology and student support professionals and researchers
• Broadcasting and telecommunications professionals
• Corporate training providers
• Voluntary and community organisations
• Professional associations
• Graduates or students of open learning
• Others involved with, or willing to contribute to thinking about, open learning

The organisers will be particularly interested to receive proposals for presentations directly concerning the Forum sub-themes — open schooling, non-formal adult and community education, corporate/industrial training, technical/vocational training, as well as university and college education — as being applied in the developing countries of the Commonwealth. Presentations may take the form of:

• A paper or case study (half-hour presentation)
• A workshop (one hour time-slot), defining a problem or issue and leading to discussion or action by the participants
• A "poster", up to a maximum size of 0.91 metres (3 feet) wide and 1.22 metres (4 feet) high

Delegates are also encouraged to bring samples of their print, audio-visual, computer and telecommunications courseware for a display of Commonwealth open and distance learning materials. These may be "high tech" or "low tech"; both are welcome.

In submitting your one-page abstract, please ensure that you provide all of the following details:

1. Your name, address, telephone number, fax number and e-mail address
2. The title of your presentation and the name(s)/institution(s) of the authors
3. Whether your presentation is: a case study, a workshop, or a poster
4. A summary of content of up to 200 words
5. To help the Programme Committee to find the best location for your presentation in the parallel sessions, please also add the following keywords at the bottom of your abstract:

• The particular sector your presentation focuses on:
  ·  Schools   ·   Technical/vocational  ·  Corporate/industry
  ·  Non-formal adult/community  ·  Universities/colleges

• The prime focus of your presentation:
  ·  Staff development  ·  Research/evaluation   ·  Quality assurance/costing

  ·  Copyright/intellectual property

Please forward your abstract as soon as possible, as an e-mail attachment in Rich Text Format or Microsoft Word only or as hard copy to the address below.

The deadline for the submission of abstracts (case studies, workshops or posters) is 25 September 1998.

You will be notified as soon as possible as whether or not your submission has been accepted – by 15 October 1998 at the latest.

In order to be included in the conference proceedings, papers and workshop presentations/designs must be completed and submitted by 30 November 1998.
