"Knowledge Series" quick study distance education guides now available

VANCOUVER, Canada - The Vancouver-based Commonwealth of Learning (COL) has released six new titles in its Knowledge Series of start-up guides in distance education topics.

This expert-authored series is a succinct, topic-by-topic overview of distance education theory and practice. With a user-friendly, plain language approach, the Knowledge Series is designed for introductory use by education professionals and managers relatively new to the field - as well as for use by educational, vocational or corporate trainers.

Fresh topics are published each year. The new titles are: designing online learning, audio/audioconferencing, video/videoconferencing, community radio, the use of telecentres in distance education and analysing costs/benefits for distance education programmes. First published in November 2000, other topics in the series include editing, support groups, instructional design, multimedia and managing for electronic networking.

Each title comes in a six-page, fold-out glossy colour format, integrating a front cover and a back section with a bibliography and references for further research.

The Knowledge Series is freely available and may be duplicated for non-commercial use, with acknowledgement to the author and to COL. Guides can be individually downloaded from the COL website in either HTML or Acrobat PDF formats. Single copies of print and CD-ROM versions are also available at no charge on request from COL ( info@col.org).

COL is an intergovernmental organisation created by Commonwealth Heads of Government to encourage the development and sharing of open learning and distance education knowledge, resources and technologies.
