Integrating eLearning 

COL is undertaking a range of activities to support governments to integrate ICT into their education and training systems and to assist institutions, individuals and communities to use ICT confidently and creatively to achieve their respective goals and participate in the global community.

This includes providing policy support to governments, increasing digital literacy in institutions and communities and supporting governments and institutions to develop and use open education resources.

COL’s ICT and eLearning initiatives include:

  • ICT in Education policies and strategies – COL supports governments to develop and implement ICT in Education policies and strategies.
  • Teacher integration of ICT into Teaching and LearningCOL, in collaboration with the Commonwealth Secretariat, Microsoft and UNESCO is working with countries to increase the number of teachers that demonstrate the knowledge and skills to integrate ICT into teaching and learning.
  • Taking OER beyond the OER Community: Policy and Capacity COL and UNESCO are jointly driving the Initiative: Taking OER beyond the OER community: Policy and Capacity’.  Its aim is to expand the understanding of OER by educational decision makers (governmental and institutional) in order to promote their wider use.

Online discussion forums

The Commonwealth of Learning and UNESCO are organising a series of three online discussion forums on aspects of Open Educational Resources. This is part of a joint COL/UNESCO initiative entitled, “Taking OER beyond the OER Community: Policy and Capacity” (http://oerworkshop.weebly.com).

This is an open invitation to participate in this online conversation over the coming months.

  • 23 – 29 September 2010 : “Taking OER beyond the OER Community: Policy and Capacity”
  • 20 - 26 October 2010: “What works, what does not and under what conditions?”
  • 10 - 16 November 2010: “Copyright and the development and re-use of OERs”
