COL to host a special event for the ICDE Forum
10 November 2020

On 18 November, COL will be co-hosting a satellite engagement event in the framework of the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) Presidents’ Forum 2020.  Discussions on “Leading Open Education during COVID-19” will be facilitated by Dr. Sanjaya Mishra, Education Specialist: eLearning. Panelists contributing to the session are  Dr. Srikant Mohapatra, Vice Chancellor, Odisha State Open University (India); Dr. E. Vayunandan, Vice Chancellor, Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (India); as well as Dr. Madhu Parhar, Director of CEMCA, COL’s regional office in India, and Dr. David Porter, COL’s Senior Advisor: Higher Education.

The ICDE Forum brings together Presidents, Vice-Chancellors, Principals, and Rectors from ICDE Member institutions to engage in discussion, debate and learning in globally relevant topics. The 2020 edition, “Recalibrating Educational Leadership for Resilient Education,” will be hosted virtually. It aims to share key reflections on delivering education during the pandemic and lessons learnt from the perspective of educational leaders and to consolidate recommendations from educational leaders and those responsible in government to support the publication of a future framework of recommendations related to preparing for and delivering resilient education during future global societal challenges.

The COL satellite event will focus on some of the techniques that proved successful in allowing higher education institutions to operate their programmes online and offer support to their faculty and students during the pandemic.

“Training faculty to adapt to modalities other than face-to-face instruction meant rapid transition to virtual and blended teaching practices. There was a need for nimble infrastructure, tools and resources to accomplish the new mission. Institutions across the globe have taken many different approaches to recover from the challenges of COVID-19, many of them drawing upon OER and creative strategies to support the learning needs of their students,” said Dr Porter.
