Trinidad & Tobago is a small state of the Commonwealth, with a largely rural population of over 1.5 million (World Bank, 2022).

COL’s work in Trinidad and Tobago is primarily in the areas of higher education through the Virtual University for Small States of the Commonwealth (VUSSC) network, open schooling, skills for work, gender equality and technology-enabled learning. Learners from Trinidad and Tobago are also participating in COL’s free online courses and benefitting from other openly available resources.

Highlights


  • A national programme was launched to scale upskilling based on the success of COL’s Workforce Recovery Programme.
  • The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) has created a policy and guidelines for the development and delivery of massive open online courses.
  • UTT offered its first MOOC on “Dispute Resolution and Conflict Management for Law Enforcement” in July 2023.

Partnerships are fundamental to COL’s work. Strategic partnerships allow COL to broaden its reach and engage at global, regional and national levels, while implementation partners support COL’s work in communities and institutions across Commonwealth Member States. Partners include multilateral organisations, regional bodies, national governments, government agencies, foundations, civil society organisations, public and private (not-for-profit) institutions and the private sector. COL partnerships assist in improving and extending teaching and learning services to people in the developing Commonwealth.
