ProAIctive Leadership: COL Programme on Gen AI for Vice Chancellors

Generative AI (Gen AI) is transforming the landscape of higher education, revolutionising research, and enhancing teaching and learning while automating administrative functions. In October 2024, COL introduced an exciting new programme through a partnership with Coursera: ProAIctive Leadership: Gen AI for Vice Chancellors.

This programme is specifically designed for Vice Chancellors in the Commonwealth and features six carefully selected courses from Coursera’s catalogue of over 340 courses focused on AI in higher education. The flexible structure allows participants to switch between two tracks, adapting to their schedules, interests, and areas of expertise. The full programme entails a 30-hour commitment and provides globally-recognised credentials from leaders in AI, such as IBM and Google.

Upon successful completion of both tracks, participants will receive a special credential jointly awarded by COL and Coursera. Throughout the programme, participants will benefit from the support of an AI tutor (“Coursera Coach”) and a 24/7 helpdesk, ensuring a seamless learning experience. This initiative offers vital knowledge and practical strategies for adopting Gen AI, enhancing institutional productivity, and leading your university into the future. A summary of the courses is attached for your reference. Coursera has also added a dedicated Track Zero, tailored specifically for university leaders.

Upon completing this programme, participants will be able to:

  • Formulate and implement strategies to integrate AI into their universities’ long-term vision.
  • Develop and execute strategic roadmaps to foster AI adoption across academic and operational activities.
  • Enhance student success and institutional productivity through AI-driven innovations.
  • Understand and communicate the broader societal, academic, and ethical implications of Gen AI.
  • Lead informed discussions with their leadership teams regarding AI-related changes and challenges.
