The Commonwealth of Learning (COL)’s regional centre, the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA), collaborated with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) as a learning partner during the 14th Global Skills Summit 2023 (GSS 2023). The Summit was appropriately themed as ‘Building Skills | Empowering Youth | Creating Future’. GSS 2023 was a confluence of visionaries, policymakers and industry leaders with a shared objective – crafting a roadmap for India’s high-quality, industry-driven skilling ecosystem. This vision seamlessly resonates with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) core guidelines.

Dr B. Shadrach, Director of CEMCA, delivered an address during Session One titled “Education & Skills: Pillars for Making India the Skill Capital of the World.” Acknowledging NEP 2020’s groundbreaking convergence of the skills and education sectors, he underscored the pivotal role that open, online, distance, digital, and blended learning approaches, championed by COL and CEMCA, can play. These approaches can serve as a scalable and quality-focused solution, enhancing access to quality education and skills and providing the crucial passport to livelihood opportunities.

On the side-lines of GSS 2023, CEMCA also demonstrated the Academic and Career Skills (Self-Assessment) Instrument (ACSI). The ACSI, developed by CEMCA for the Central Board of Secondary Education, aims to assist students in making informed decisions regarding their educational stream and future career paths.
