Professor Asha Kanwar, President and CEO of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), spoke at the University of Ibadan on 26 January 2017 on the topic “Open Educational Resources: Innovation in Higher Education?” as part of a two-day training programme on open and distance learning skills.

“Let us all agree to be champions and promote OER among our colleagues,” she said. “Let us collaborate so that we don’t duplicate efforts and let us also encourage our learners to be active producers of OER and to share them with their peers. Our final goal is the same: achieve quality education and lifelong learning for all for the sustainable development of our countries.”

COL works on a variety of initiatives across Nigeria in areas including higher education, technical and vocational skills training and teacher education. COL and NOUN work collaboratively to support the Regional Training and Research Institute for Distance and Open Learning (RETRIDOL), which serves as a centre for expertise in open and distance learning for West Africa.
