In collaboration with COL, SchoolNet South Africa conducted a three-day workshop from 18 – 20 January, 2019 to build the capacity of teachers to develop digital education skills using COL’s Commonwealth Digital Education Leadership Training in Action (C-DELTA) platform. The workshop hosted at the University of Johannesburg was attended by 35 public and private school teachers, and members of education faculties from across South Africa.

The teachers actively discussed issues related to developing digital identities, enhancing access, and cultivating innovation. They also developed orientation plans for students and teachers to implement C-DELTA in their schools. One of the teachers commented, “The course is well designed. It addresses the problems facing us now. It helps us be aware [that] we can protect ourselves in the digital world. It creates awareness to the world at large”. This team of newly trained C-DELTA teachers look forward to implementing a range of activities to share their digital education skills with their staff and communities.

Dr. Sanjaya Mishra, Education Specialist: eLearning stated that “the C-DELTA implementation in schools is extremely important as South Africa has recently adopted a Professional Development Framework for Digital Learning. The course content for C-DELTA has been developed at the University of Cape Town, and the contents are aligned to the new framework.”
