In partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), the Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) recently organised a workshop to develop an Open Distance Learning (ODL) strategy for in-service teacher training. This strategy is based on the Technology-Enabled Learning (TEL) Competency Framework for teachers in Zambia. Subsequently, a one-day online validation workshop was conducted to finalise the strategic implementation plan, offering guidance for a phased rollout of the strategy over the next five years.

Dr Eddy Mubanga, TCZ Registrar expressed appreciation for the partnership with COL stating, “This strategy provides a comprehensive framework for promoting the teaching profession, lifelong learning and the effective utilisation of technology in schools. By implementing the strategic plan’s objectives, TCZ aims to enhance the quality of education in the country and prepare teachers for the demands of the 21st-century learning environment.”

Dr Evode Mukama, COL Adviser: Teacher Education commended the TCZ management and staff for their efforts in building teachers’ capacity through technology whereby  the transformative power of ODL and TEL is being accessed towards spearheading in-service teacher training and widening access to learning opportunities across Zambia.”
