COL’s new course, Mobile Learning with Multimedia (MLM1) is now open for registration and begins on October 12, 2020. The course, which is the first of a two-part MOOC, trains participants to develop audio-based learning resources in their respective subject areas and to upload these to an online streaming media portal.

Teacher educators, school teachers and other education leaders will find this course useful as it guides participants in using technologies readily available to them to develop curriculum-relevant and pedagogically sound educational materials that can be accessed by learners in low-connectivity and other typically disadvantaged settings.

During the COVID-19 crisis, educational podcasting has emerged as a means towards harnessing instructor-generated content for mobile learning, without the need for expensive equipment and institutional learning platforms. This course will require 3 – 4 hours’ time commitment each week for a period of 4 weeks.

COL’s Education Specialist: Teacher Education, Dr Betty Ogange said, “It is important to support educators to generate learning resources that are accessible to a wide range of learner variability. This course prepares participants to not only develop audio-based OER but also prepare these resources for delivery on radio and dial-in access, among other means.”

The course is a prerequisite to the Advanced Mobile Learning with Multimedia (MLM 2), to be offered at a later date.
