Registration is now open for the Teaching Science with Technology course (TST MOOC). Developed by Nigeria’s University of Abuja with support from the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) as part of its capacity-building initiatives, this five-week Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is scheduled to run from 13 May to 14 June 2024.

Participants will explore the utilisation of open-licensed interactive science simulations like Physics Education Technology (PhET), along with other open educational resources (OER), to enhance teaching across various disciplines such as biology, physics, chemistry and related fields.

This MOOC is designed to benefit teachers, student teachers, teacher educators and instructional designers. Its primary goal is to assist in meticulous planning and execution of technology-enhanced science lessons and related assessments.

Dr Evode Mukama, Adviser Teacher Education at COL, emphasised that “enhancing institutional capacity to develop MOOCs contributes to the augmentation of qualified teachers who can effectively utilise OER, thereby producing competent graduates.”

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be eligible to receive either a “Certificate of Completion” or a “Certificate of Participation.”
