The University of Fort Hare (UFH) and SchoolNet South Africa (SA) organised a learning design workshop from 11 to 15 February 2019 at Hogsback in the Eastern Cape Province. The workshop was developed in collaboration with COL as part of the ‘Teacher Futures – South Africa’ programme.

The UFH Head of the School of Education Dr Winston Hendricks welcomed participants to the workshop and outlined the objective which was to focus on conceptualising the materials-writing process and the content for three courses on digital learning.

Workshop facilitators Omashani Naidoo and Hlengiwe Mfeka from SchoolNet SA supported the participants in evaluating multiple learning design models and digital learning resources for determining the priority skills and knowledge for teachers for incorporation into the courses. Participants also reviewed COL’s Blueprint and Toolkit for School-Based Teacher Development (SBTD).

Thirty-five delegates attended the workshop comprising representatives from the 10 secondary schools in the programme, academics from the Faculty of Education and the UFH Teaching and Learning Centre, as well as individuals from the provincial and district departments of education.
