Reflecting the global priority on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) and the University of Abuja in Nigeria are partnering to enhance STEM education outcomes in Africa and across the Commonwealth.

This webinar shares the University of Abuja’s experience in strengthening the capabilities of STEM teachers and educators. It highlights the effectiveness of Physics Educational Technology (PhET) simulations and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).

Can the University of Abuja become a leading hub for advancing STEM education in Africa? The following panellists will explore this question:

  • Evode Mukama: Adviser: Teacher Education at the Commonwealth of Learning, Burnaby, Canada. Expert in enhancing government and institutional effectiveness in teacher education through Open Distance Learning.
  • Professor Hauwa Imam: Director of the Institute of Education at the University of Abuja and leader in developing the Teaching Science with Technology MOOC.
  • Professor Olumide Owolabi: Specialist in databases, intelligent systems, machine learning, and data mining, and Director of the Centre of Competence in Digital Education at the University of Abuja.
