Organised by Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA) & Science Fuse, in partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning, this upcoming webinar on 25 September 2026 brings together organisations and practitioners from across the Commonwealth to explore what determines an interest in science among girls and young women.
The session will begin with personal reflection on how people understand their own relationship with science, before introducing the concept of Science Capital and the role that everyday knowledge, experiences and relationships play in shaping engagement with science. Building on that foundation, the session will explore how the Sayani Saheliyaan Project (SSTR) translates these ideas into practice, helping girls recognise science in their daily lives and connect that awareness to confidence, further learning, livelihoods and opportunity. Participants will then have space to reflect on these ideas, exchange perspectives, and consider how they might inform their own work with girls and young women.

About the SSTR Project
SSTR is a hybrid, community-anchored programme run by Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA) in partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning, working with young women in peri-urban Lahore. Participants move through a four-module curriculum, delivered face-to-face by trained local Community Champions and fully digitally through an LMS-based pathway, on Leadership & Voice; Digital Safety & Canva for Business; STEM & Livelihoods; and Financial Literacy.
Beyond the community-based learning, SSTR connects participants to wider education, skills and livelihood opportunities. These include PSDA-recognised certification and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), peer networks, professional mentorship, and referrals into Pakistan’s formal TVET and livelihood ecosystem.
The programme aims to translate young women’s strong aspirations to upskill, gain recognised certification and earn an income into tangible pathways to financial inclusion, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods. Delivery is supported by partners including Science Fuse, 1 Million Teachers, the State Bank of Pakistan, the Punjab Skills Development Authority, and the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission in Pakistan.
