Developments around generative artificial intelligence (AI) hold much potential for the higher education sector, especially in terms of assessment. Within this context, the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) Chair, Professor Denise Whitelock from The Open University, UK will be hosting a webinar entitled ‘Generative AI: Prompting New Opportunities and Challenges for Higher Education’.

The webinar will involve an appraisal of the challenges and opportunities generative AI tools pose, insights from a panel of academic experts, an exploration of the role of prompts when using generative AI, and a platform to share views on how we can respond to technologies such as ChatGPT.

This COL-hosted webinar invites participants to join in the conversation about generative AI and essay writers in the company of a distinguished expert of AI in education – Professor Mike Sharples. The main presenter will be joined by a panel of experts, including,

  • Dr Josep M. Duart – Full Professor of Educational Technology and Leadership at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Spain;
  • Professor Paul Prinsloo – Research Professor in Open and Distance Learning at the University of South Africa; and
  • Mychelle Pride – Associate Dean, Teaching Excellence Faculty of Wellbeing, Education & Language Studies at The Open University, UK.
