COL’s upcoming webinar, Legal framework for inclusive ODL in West Africa: Governance, rights, and digital access, highlights the work and expertise of Professor Simon-Peter Kafui Aheto, Esq., an Associate Professor of Information Technology and Education at the University of Ghana and a legal practitioner specialising in IT law. As part of COL’s webinar series highlighting inclusive ODL practices in the West African region, the session provides a regional platform for dialogue and knowledge sharing on learner support, while advancing inclusive, accessible, and responsive support systems.
Participants will:
- discuss how technology, policy, legal frameworks, and learners’ rights can support inclusive, equitable, and effective learner support in ODL;
- identify opportunities for regional collaboration and knowledge sharing to strengthen learner support services and promote equitable digital access; and
- highlight the importance of learner support in promoting inclusive, accessible, and responsive Open and Distance Learning (ODL) systems across West Africa.

Speaker Profile

Professor Simon-Peter Kafui Aheto, Esq., serves as Deputy Director (Programmes) at the Digital Youth Village and Centre for Digital Youth Development in Ghana, leading innovation-driven youth empowerment initiatives. He co–ordinates international programmes at the College of Education and consults for the African Union, GIZ, and WiLDAF/OXFAM. He has also consulted for UNESCO and currently co-ordinates the academic component of UNFPA’s Youth Leadership and Development programme at the University of Ghana. His work spans digital education, AI governance, youth leadership, and education law, with a strong focus on policy and programme development across Africa.
