The Commonwealth of Learning (COL), with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, New Zealand (MFAT), is providing programmes for young women as part of an initiative with Tonga Women in ICT (TWICT). These programmes are designed to provide leadership and entrepreneurship training to a wide range of learners – private sector professionals, TVET graduates, small business owners and students.
TWICT is a non-governmental organisation established to foster and encourage the participation of women and girls in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector in Tonga, and conducts trainings, workshops, research and other ICT-related activities.
Recently, TWICT hosted a Leadership and Entrepreneurship training workshop, where participants engaged in insightful discussions and shared their newfound knowledge while looking forward to the upcoming series focused on digital literacy and youth upskilling.
Two of the participants, Salise Faiva’ilo and Courtney Faiva’ilo, commented on the event and its impact on their lives, “In our vibrant Kingdom of Tonga, we were privileged to embark on a journey through leadership programmes and entrepreneurial ventures, guided by the wisdom of experienced mentors and entrepreneurs. Through these programmes, we discovered the power of resilience, influence and collaboration which was all possible through TWICT workshops and training that we were a part of.”
Workshop attendees Ise and Ney Faiva’ilo added, “As young individuals flourished under the guidance of TWICT with different unique projects targeting certain interests of individuals and entrepreneurs like us, we realised that true leadership knows no barriers. With hearts full of gratitude, we thank Tongan Women in ICT for paving the way towards a future where leaders are born, and success knows no limits. We are grateful for the opportunities presented to us as we turned our gaze toward TWICT and COL as a beacon of empowerment and innovation in our island nation.”
TWICT successfully wrapped up the latest digital training workshop for teachers. More than 20 educators joined as they mastered Excel formulas and how to seamlessly integrate them into Word documents for report writing. TWICT thanked COL for its continuous support in empowering Tongan educators with essential digital literacy skills.
