Join us on 17 August at 14:30 WAT for a webinar on strengthening disability inclusion for equitable open and distance learning (ODL) in West Africa. Although ODL has expanded access to tertiary education, learners with disabilities remain marginalised and excluded from many learning pathways.
This webinar explores how institutions can develop an Inclusive Learner Support Assessment Framework that responds to the realities of the West African context. It will consider key regional challenges related to policy and governance, accessible infrastructure and technology, inclusive curriculum and assessment design, and the cultural stigmas surrounding disability, while also highlighting practical ways to create more equitable and supportive learning environments.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to: identify key barriers affecting the inclusion and participation of learners with disabilities in education; understand how inclusive approaches can be applied to learner support, curriculum design, assessment and educational delivery; and contribute to dialogue and advocacy on the policies, practices and resources needed to promote equitable access, participation and success for learners with disabilities.

Presenter Profile
Dr Adedunni Omowunmi Adegun is the Acting Head of the Department of Education at the Distance Learning Institute, University of Lagos, Nigeria. She is a senior lecturer and a member of the university-wide counselling programme, which provides support to staff, students and other members of the university community on mental health, career, academic and related matters.
Prior to her appointment as acting head of the department, she served as coordinator of the institute’s Learner Support Unit, where she advocated for inclusive assessment practices for learners with disabilities. She is also a career coach for teenagers and young adults, as well as an expert in open and distance learning. Dr Adegun has published widely in reputable national and international journals.
